UK Arts International presents
iMumbo Jumbo - The Days of Miracle and Wonder
2005 & 2006
iMumbo Jumbo is a dramatisation of the true and intrepid 1996 quest of Chief Nicholas Tilana Gcaleka (diviner, priest, liquor salesman, guru) to Britain to retrieve the skull of his ancestor, King Hintsa KaPhalo – Paramount Chief of the amaXhosa, killed by a colonial posse in 1838.
With a cast of 25, including sangomas, children, gospel choristers and the Bunfight team, this vibrant and over-the-top production uses township gospel, funky music from West Africa and moving Transkei chants.
Third World Bunfight, last seen in the UK with Big Dada, continue their tradition of colourful, confrontational productions, providing a strong new voice in South African theatre.
