Pied Piper is a stage adaptation of Robert Browning’s poem The Pied Piper of Hamelin.
The story is told exclusively in dance with a recorded soundtrack, which includes original music as well as raps taken directly from Browning’s poem. In the hands of Boy Blue Pied Piper becomes an edgy and contemporary tale where the rats are transformed to “anti-social hoodies” and the town governors become fickle politicians and smarmy spin doctors.
Boy Blue was formed in 2001 by Choreographer & Dancer Kenrick “H20” Sandy and Musician, Producer and Composer Michael “Mikey J” Asante. Together with a company of 25 dancers they provide a spectacular fusion of jaw-dropping dance moves, an inspiring soundtrack and a pertinent story about the abuse of power & fear of the unknown.
This groundbreaking hip-hop dance piece won a prestigious Olivier Award for best newcomer in 2006 after just 12 sell-out performances at Stratford East.
The production is accompanied by a large-scale participatory and education programme, which includes the chance for local people to perform in the show.
