Small to middle scale
MirrorMirror is a collaboration between Stalker’s David Clarkson and independent dancer/choreographer Dean Walsh. Work began on the project in 2006 and continued through 2007 and 2008, building to a sell out avant premiere season at Noorderzon Festival in the Netherlands August 2009) and the world premiere season in Sydney, October 2009.
MirrorMirror examines the interface between physical theatre, dance and aerial apparatus whilst exploring stories of identity and morality. It plays with information and stories that are held within the body – in genetics, in movement patterns, in ancestry, in improvisation and in memory. It explores how personal identity is not fixed but rather spread over time, place and space.
MirrorMirror explores the concept of all of humanity having a common identity and shared ancestry. As the show’s creators have worked together they have encountered an uncanny familiarities in their genetic and personal histories. Their work together not only reflects this but also their different backgrounds in physicality; David’s in aerial work, Dean’s in dance.
This production reflects shared history, both recent and extremely distant, and perhaps the future as well.
