UK Arts International presents
Dekaffirnated
2004
Hailed as an institution in his native South Africa, cross-dressing satirist Pieter-Dirk Uys is touring with three productions, Foreign Aids, Dekaffirnated and An Audience With An African Queen.
In DEKAFFIRNATED, he adopts numerous persona to explore and celebrate the reality of the “Rainbow Nation” – a pot-bellied Afrikaaner, a witchdoctor, a Jewish Russian contessa, ex President Mandela and, of course, his own wonderful and glamorous creation, Evita Bezuidenhout – South Africa’s barbed answer to Edna Everage. Through a series of cameos, Pieter-Dirk Uys exposes the flaws and fault lines of a society.
‘Uys gets us laughing – not at death, but at fear, ignorance, complacency…I have never had a more enjoyable time being soap-boxed’
The Guardian
