Dada Masilo’s interest in using a fresh new vocabulary to recreate and reinterpret classic stories is further explored in her new piece – Swan Lake.
As with her previous productions, Swan Lake brings together music by various composers. It also features a solo to Tchaikovsky’s score for the second act pas de deux as well as Saint-Saens The Swan.
"There is always one production at the festival that has everyone talking and fighting for tickets. This year it was Dada Masilo's Swan Lake... a dance lover's delight." - The Star
"Dada Masilo is my new hope for SA dance... it takes someone super special to combine ballet, contemporary and African dance in such a way that it doesn't look bad, never mind make it remarkable." - Artsblog
"Dada Masilo manages to take our breath away again... She re-imagines classical ballet through an African eye and translates it into something which is powerful, heartbreaking but also has moments of great humour and humanism." - Cue TV
