Crocodile Seeking Refuge

UK Tour October - November 2006

Crocodile Seeking Refuge'...a heartfelt play...acted very well by a talented cast...straight from the heart'. Lyn Gardner, The Guardian

The plot line of Crocodile Seeking Refuge ...'provides a clever microcosmic symbol of the (topical) debate surrounding the view that Britain as a whole is being "swamped" by immigrants.' Sam Marlowe, The Times

The central storyline is of a female British asylum lawyer whose committment to her clients, in particular Zakariya from Darfur, places an increasing strain on her marriage. Woven around this story are the stories of five individuals who have sought asylum in the UK having faced death in their country of origin. Each is haunted in a different way by the past and each faces a different challenge trying to create a new life in Britain.

Following the successful run of her first play I Have Before Me A Remarkable Document Given To Me By A Young Lady From Rwanda, the award-winning playwright Sonja Linden returns with this, her second play for the company.

Inspired by her 7 year writing residency at the Medical Foundation for Care for the Vicims of Torture and by her own experience as the daughter of refugees from Nazi Germany, Linden brings an innate insight and professional understanding to the refugee / asylum seeker's predicament, making this play '...inescapably powerful and moving'. Gerald Berkowitz, The Stage
